Cross-Carbon Metering
Monitoring clean cooking activity to unlock climate finance
Modern Energy Cooking Services
MECS is a UK Government funded initiative to promote clean cooking activity, aiming to accelerate the displacement of harmful charcoal cooking. Following laboratory and field testing, 4R Digital is designing a digital solution for remote monitoring of clean cooking activity that is practical, scalable, and commercially viable.
Working directly with manufacturing partners, 4R Digital is adapting proven, off-the-shelf hardware into a low-cost, offline energy-monitoring solution designed specifically for the clean cooking sector. By prioritising simplicity and robustness, the approach keeps both upfront hardware costs and ongoing operating expenses to a minimum — an essential requirement in markets where affordability is critical to user uptake and long-term adoption.
The resulting connected hardware integrates with 4R Digital's Carbon Value Exchange (Cavex) platform, enabling secure data collection, transparent verification, and streamlined access to carbon markets. Together, this end-to-end system helps democratise access to climate finance, align incentives across the value chain, and support the large-scale deployment of clean cooking technologies.
